Scorpions girls, boys place second at regional1 min read

The Sedona Red Rock High School track and field teams competed well in the regional championship meet and now look to perform even better in the state meet.

The Scorpions boys and girls teams both placed second at the Yavapai County Track and Field Championships on Friday, April 26, at Bradshaw Mountain High School in Prescott Valley. The girls were just three points behind first-place finisher Mingus Union with 134 points. Bradshaw Mountain finished third with 118 points.

Eaton cleared the state-qualifying jump with 13 feet, 1 inch at the Yavapai County Track and Field Championship meet, Friday, April 26.Prescott won the boys’ meet with 178 points, followed by Sedona with 131 points. Mingus Union was on the Scorpions’ heels, finishing third with 129 points.

The Sedona boys’ team didn’t have any sprinters compete, but junior Travis Okie continues to dominate his distance events. Okie won the 800-meter run in 1 minute, 59.66 seconds and the 1,600-meter run in 2:08.20 — both were state qualifying times. Sophomore Kevin Alvarez placed third in the 800 with a time of 2:08.20.
