Okie is now the state champion in the 800 event, running it in 1 minute, 56.52 seconds at the championships. The Scorpions placed second in the team scores with 68 points, right behind Mingus Union with 89 points.

“The Verde Valley has the No. 1 and 2 place teams in the state for girls. That’s super,” Schneider said. “If we didn’t win it, we wanted Mingus Union to win it. They definitely earned it.”
