The Sedona Red Rock Scorpions golf team excelled with a handful of sophomores during its 2013 season, and ended the season with a few high notes.
The Scorpions ended their season with an impressive 19-8 dual record, and all eight losses were to teams that finished in the top 10 of the 54 schools in Division III.
“The Phoenix schools tend to be where the better programs are located while we currently dominate competition in the Northern part of Arizona,” SRRHS Head Coach Dennis Mobley said. “As an example, the top five teams at state were all from the Phoenix area.
“All in all, this was an excellent season for a team frequently starting six sophomores and a freshman.”
Jasper Herrick won the season scoring average in a close three-way battle with Savanah Cooper and Skyler Richardson.
“These three went back-and-forth all season, and we are extremely fortunate to have essentially three No. 1s for the next two years.”
Cooper qualified for the Division III State Golf Tournament while Herrick fell one qualifying round short.
