Along with three-year varsity letterman and international soccer player, Cassie Sanchez can now add college athlete to her resume.
The Sedona Red Rock High School midfielder is now the newest Thunderbird, as she signed to play soccer at Mesa Community College and is receiving a full-ride scholarship for the two-year program.
“Two years ago I started realizing that I wanted to play soccer in college, and I have always wanted to start at Mesa Community College, so when I got the call from the coach, it was really cool,” Sanchez said. “I knew some [former] players who played for Mesa. They liked the coach and I always heard good things about him.”
While Sanchez was being looked at by a few other Arizona community colleges, including Paradise Valley Community College and Scottsdale Community College, her coaches contacted Coach Andrew Guarneri, and he came out to watch Sanchez play. Sanchez was then offered an open try-out for the team and was offered the scholarship on the spot.
