With one inning left, chants of “11 and O! 11 and O!” could be heard throughout Riverfront Park.
One out was all that stood between the Sedona Wildcats and a perfect season record. With an opponent in scoring position, a grounder was hit to Carolina Lopez who scooped it up at first base for the final out and the Sedona Wildcats became the newest team to go 11-0.
The Wildcats ended the season with a dominating 17-2 victory over the Florida Gators of the Verde Valley Little League on Tuesday, June 4.
The Gators had just an eight-girl team, and despite the final score, the Gators put up a decent fight with sparks of good play. The more experienced Wildcats, however, kept them scoreless for three of the four innings.
Angelina Cox started in the pitching circle for the Gators and it took her a while to level out her pitching. After five straight walks, Avery Stewart, Megan Montgomery, Natalie Monge and Jasmine Vargas scored runs on wild pitches, including an unearned home run by Christina Schweiss. The five runs ended the top of the inning due to the maximum five-runs per inning rule of Little League.
