The Secret Fire, a small 15-acre fire in the Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness near Loy Canyon, 15 miles northwest of Sedona, was reported to be 60 percent contained as of 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 18.
Brienne Magee, Public Affairs Specialist for the Flagstaff Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest, reports that firefighters on the scene are succeeding in their efforts to contain the fire.
A portion of the fire, which is believed to have been caused by lightning on Saturday, June 15, is on steep slopes which are inaccessible to firefighters, necessitating the use of helicopters to drop water on the flames in an attempt to keep them from spreading.
