The boys of fall are training hard in the summer.

The Sedona Red Rock High School football team has been in the weight room and on the football field since school ended over a month ago preparing for the upcoming season.

The team practices three days a week preparing for the upcoming season. The Scorpions finished last season with their first winning record since 2003 and first state playoff appearance since 2005. They were ranked as the No. 16 team in Division V and No. 4 in Section I after losing to the state champions, Northwest Christian, in the first round of the Division V state playoffs. They ended with a 6-5 overall record.

Now, with the loss of four strong seniors the Scorpions are looking to fill those shoes and improve every day for an even better season.

They have been practicing three days a week, each day starting in the weight room to lift and then on the field for drills.

“We’ve implemented [a weight lifting regimen] for four years now,” SRRHS Head Football Coach Rick Walsworth said. “It’s the most important thing we do to be successful. We’ve had a lifting routine all offseason and in class.”

They’ve also been involved in 7-on-7 games, tournaments and inter-squad scrimmages.
