Sedona lifeguards competed in the Ultimate Lifeguard Challenge that ultimately tested their water safety skill levels.
Twelve local lifeguards participated in the 128-man statewide competition at the Kiwanis Recreation Center in Tempe on June 30. The competition was hosted by the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association’s Sports and Aquatics Branch.
The 12 Sedona lifeguards were split into two men’s teams and one women’s team.
Rachel Murdoch, Shirley Presentacion, Catherine Polito and Kylie Self made up the Princess Mermaids.
Jacob Decker, John Beck, Tristan Decker and Matt Hamilton competed as Prestige International.
Evan Decker, Chris Gibson, Alex Mayer and Jasper Herrick were team Showtime.
Each team had to compete in four individual events and a team relay, and an individual could not compete in more than one individual event. The swimmer earned points based on his or her placement.
