When Mercury goes retrograde, seemingly doing the backstroke in the sky versus the breaststroke gliding forward, we are tested.
It occurs about three times a year. Think of swimming from one end of the pool to the other. We’ll call that the shadow of the retrograde. When we swim back to where we started, That is the retrograde; swimming back over the area we swam up before, (the shadow), reviewing it again. When it’s done swimming back to where we started, the retrograde is complete. Now visualize that movement in the sky, where it really happens.
Once the retro is done, things have been reviewed and revealed in our lives, and we have new information; what we need to go forward, in the know, with insights we didn’t have before. So, counting the shadow space, it’s more than a month each time we experience a Mercury retrograde.
It’s happening now, and it will stop retrograding on November 10th, beginning to swim in forward motion again. Give it a couple of days to start to pick up speed again, and things will seem normal again.
Wherever Mercury is in your chart, is where it will be diving for gems of knowledge. If it’s your second house, for instance, you’ll be taking a dive into deeper waters about your value, your income, how much you have in the bank, your self-worth, your self esteem, your body…
Did I say this happens for three months every year? You heard right. We are without the assistance of forward-moving Mercury that often, but there are gifts in its path for us, not just challenges testing us to spiritually evolve.
Mercury rules all communication and everything with moving parts. That includes my blender that we discovered leaks. That includes my waiting for an important timely email while in a car going from Sedona to Cottonwood, when I checked the IPhone to see if it arrived and a message popped up indicating something like, Not Able to Receive Messages.
The same day there was a mix-up with someone’s credit card, which would make the difference in her and I receiving our highest commission in a business we have in common. Attempting to fix that took many emails and phone calls including the next day
There were all sort of communication misconnects over several days about a class I was booked to teach; ultimately finding the location closed. I let it all roll of my back, visited with a friend, then went back to my office and welcomed a new client. It’s all good.
Some of the perks of Mercury retrograde is that we go over things from the past, they are revisited and fixed; an issue from years ago became resolved successfully. We find things that were lost or figure out things we couldn’t before. We see or communicate with those we haven’t been in touch with for some time. Since not a lot of business may be ultra busy, we can reorganize and chill out too before the next tide rolls in. It’s a time for inner, spiritual tweaking.
I revisited my food habits again, in an attempt to elevate them and lower excess weight. I hired a wonderful nutritionally-oriented chef/teacher who came to my home for six hours. She had created recipes just for my tastes from salad dressings and marinades, to milkshakes, stews, soups, cookies and candy; had shopped, and showed up with boxes and boxes of nutrient-rich food and ingredients, showing me how to prepare them!.
They fill me up immediately, are more delicious than those with empty calories I was used to, my fridge and freezer are filled and I have been feasting. She indicated my body will easily reshape to my natural size and the scale has been proving it.
Because Mercury is still retrograding I am waiting until after the 10th when it turns around and goes forward again, to purchase my food processor, vita mixer and such, because I don’t want to find they will be malfunctioning or parts missing. I learned my lesson about purchasing anything with moving parts during previous Merc Retros when I purchased a new handheld phone set and ultimately had to exchange it after waiting in line for an hour.
Another time I took my car for a repair and the mechanic, by accident, tore the rubber molding around my car door and left a tool under the hood.

I can look back at these wildly testing days of retrograde and know that as I went through each day and moment I was aware of my choices and always chose faith in what I call God, to work everything out fairly and in divine time. Sometimes I played soothing music to assist in keeping my heartbeat calm. I kept my integrity, honesty and respect toward all others, no matter how the illusion of situations and time seemed.
