Paintings adorn the walls of Curt Walters’ house in Sedona. They provide a tour of the Southwest and beyond, from Bali to Venice.

Rare works from other artists are displayed in several corners and as centerpieces, traded in exchange for some of his own work. A stand in his office displays a bevy of golden medals, including a Prix de West Award, and plaques, autographed pictures and trophies.

It is no wonder, then, that this local painter is being recognized for a lifetime of work by the Desert Caballeros Western Museum in Wickenburg, just northwest of Phoenix. Walters, however, had some mixed feelings about the award.
