Sedona Red Rock High School’s girls basketball team starts two players this year who scrape the ceiling of six feet tall.

One is a newcomer, freshman Sophia Perry, who Head Coach Jackie Strickling sends out to jump center at the beginnings of games.

The taller of the two, track thrower Gabby Simon, is one of only three seniors on the Scorpions girls basketball team this year and its second-leading scorer.

“I’m 5-10 or 5-11,” Simon said. “Sometimes coach does bump me up to 6 feet.”

“Girls always want to be shorter than they really are,” Strickling interjected. “I list her as 6 feet [tall] in all of the games. Doesn’t she look 6 feet?”
