Early graduation from Sedona Red Rock High School did not mean time off for ex-Scorpions swimmer Katie Millar.

The 18-year-old Lumberjack and Chancellor’s Scholar will be moving to Flagstaff next week to test the waters of Northern Arizona University with an academic scholarship supporting a full semester’s load of classes, 15 credit hours in all.

The Sedona Community Pool swimming record holder doesn’t have any plans on swimming competitively there, however. She is taking an advanced lap swim class at the NAU pool, in which students have to swim as many laps as they can in 50 minutes.

“Their team is very, very good,” she said. “I don’t know if I’m quite up to taking that on, and school.”

After achieving a perfect 4.0 grade-point average through 3½ years at SRRHS, Millar is taking advantage of being able to transfer to her other school of choice, Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, without forfeiting the scholarship.
