The Sedona Red Rock High School girls soccer team will look to improve on its three wins to date so far this season in the Scorpions’ final tune-up for sectional play at the Country Day Invitational tournament in Phoenix this weekend.

The Scorpions [3-2] will play in four games beginning Friday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m. against Fountain Hills High School.
Head Coach Juan Carlos Aguilar said he is looking to see how his varsity players perform at different positions against bigger schools as well as try out some junior varsity girls to see what the best 14 players are as one team.

“Four games in two days is pretty taxing,” he said. “Everybody is stepping up as a leader. As coaches, we look for leaders.”

Although freshman Malia Sonn, sophomore Alejandra Betancourt and juniors Adrianna Aviles and Hannah Johnson will see significant time this weekend, possibly even in action at Northwest Christian High School on Wednesday, Jan. 15, Aguilar didn’t want to overdo the experiment.
