At least the Sedona Red Rock High School golf team could take one test early.

Already a team qualifier for the Division III state tournament, the Scorpions passed what head coach Dennis Mobley called their “midterms” April 4 and 5 at the Wrangler Invitational.

“I feel like we passed our ‘midterms’ in the sense that we can compete with a lot of the top Division III golf teams now,” Mobley said after SRRHS finished in seventh place — right in the middle of the field at the two-day, 36-hole invitational at Wickenburg Country Club. “The field included eight teams that qualified for last year’s state tournament.”

Junior Gary Schlee shot a team-low 76 in the second round of the invitational to also finish in seventh place out of a field of 75 golfers.
