He was a loving husband and father, a loyal friend and dedicated employee but above all he was someone who loved life and people.
That’s how Bruce Harrolle — an Arizona Department of Public Safety officer — was described by colleagues and loved ones during a dedication ceremony on Saturday, April 26.
He was honored during the opening of the Sedona Fire District’s new Station No. 6.
On Oct. 13, 2008, Harrolle’s DPS helicopter crew was dispatched from Flagstaff to assist SFD personnel in the rescue of two stranded hikers about 1.5 miles southeast of Bear Mountain. According to a report, Harrolle was struck by the helicopter’s rotor and died at the scene.
It’s tradition that when a DPS officer is killed in the line of duty, a memorial be placed as close to the scene as possible to honor that individual. In this case, a location could not be agreed upon until the SFD stepped forward and offered a spot outside the new station.
