A series of successful fundraisers has Sedona bicyclists looking up and ahead to a master plan for the city bike park.

Nearly $21,600 in donations following a local bike shop anniversary party, another $8,500 in pledges by other local businesses and a Tuesday, June 17, movie fundraiser at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre are projected to meet more than the expected cost early for design of the new 13-acre site, located inside Posse Grounds Park at 525 Posse Ground Road.

“One of my biggest goals is to have the ability for progression,” said Lars Romig, president of the Verde Valley Cyclists Coalition.

“Flow trails, progressive jump trails, drop lines, a progressive jump line, and technical features — anything from a rock garden to an area for kids on strider bikes to practice — able to make a mountain biker to negotiate a lot of different kinds of trails.”

Since $30,000 has already been raised prior to the beginning of the new fiscal year Tuesday, July 1, call for bids on the park’s design, the VVCC and other organizers will spend the night of June 17 at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre prior to the premiere of the bike film “Arrival” at 6 p.m. presenting conceptual maps, giving status updates on the design and community input process and explaining features discussed for the first phase of the park, expected to break ground by January.
