Summer break, for the nine returning Sedona Red Rock High School volleyball players, was May this year.
The senior-laden varsity Scorpions have been in the weight room and in open gym twice a week each ever since, building up for team camp beginning Thursday, July 17, at 2:30 p.m. at Arizona State University.
“My only concern is they haven’t played with the scoreboard on in awhile,” head volleyball coach John Parks said. “It’s definitely different when those lights come on.”
Expectations are great for incoming seniors Morgan Andrews, Hannah Johnson, DeVonne Ryter, Shamina Thodé and Jillian Ziebell along with juniors Lauren Stevenson and Kendall Woellmer and sophomores Regan Hurkett, Annie Parrella and Sophia Perry. Especially after the core of that group placed third in the championship division at the 17-and-under state tournament in May and got Ryter close attention from several Division I college volleyball coaches at a national qualifier in Dallas.
