To the surprise of everyone employed at the Sedona Parks and Recreation Department, it moved Monday, July 14, to a more central location at Posse Grounds Park.

“We had not been planning to move for a year. Actually, we didn’t plan on moving at all,” Sedona Parks and Recreation Manager Rachel Murdoch said. “We were told we were moving.”

Although any paper mail correspondence should continue to be sent, until further notice, to the department’s old address — 102 Roadrunner Drive, south of the park off State Route 89A — the city of Sedona’s mandate since March has been to relocate Parks and Recreation’s facilities to 525 Posse Ground Road in a virtual trade-off with the Public Works administration department.

“Then it just started moving quickly,” Murdoch said. “Public Works and Community Development needed more space, so they have taken over the original offices, and we moved out here.”

The old Public Works and Community Development administration building, less than 1,000 square feet, had become too small, so both city departments now occupy the old Parks and Recreation offices.

“They really fixed up this building for us, though, in a very short amount of time,” Murdoch said. “We appreciate all the work they did to get us out here.”
