Before rushing rains and standing water could bring the Adult Softball League to a standstill, Sedona Parks and Recreation Manager Rachel Murdoch made an executive decision.
On Thursday, Aug. 21, regular-season softball games were cancelled for the third time in the past month. League rules state that a full night of games can only be postponed a week one time — then the games are cancelled.
In this case, however, that would mean an immediate jump to the league tournament.
“We made the rule, and we’re going to break it,” she said.
Therefore, final games of the regular season will be played Thursday, Aug. 28 — the original date of the league tournament championship, which will now not be decided until Thursday, Sept. 11.
This gives rise to different possibilities as far as tournament matchups go.
