With nine minutes left in the second quarter of a 7-0 game between Sedona Red Rock and Page high schools, Max Hauserman returned.
“It felt pretty freaking awesome,” he said. “With the coach we have right now and the offense he brings to us, I think he can make us great.”
The senior SRRHS quarterback, absent from the Scorpions’ first two games due to a high ankle sprain, replaced junior Derrick Johnson behind center and, with two seconds to play in the first half, rolled out to his left, found junior Bailey Ehrlich outrunning the coverage down the sideline and fired a 50-yard strike.
“He’s got a good field of vision with all his receivers, and his mechanics are sound,” head coach Ken Selle said. “I’ve worked with Max for two years.
“They’ve both been here every practice since April. This offense allows them to be confident.”
Just like that, it was 14-0 at halftime, and the Scorpions [2-1] would never look back Friday, Sept. 12, en route to a 35-6 rolling of the Sand Devils.
