Technically, Andre Davis beat North Pointe Prep by himself — although his head coach didn’t feel it should’ve taken such an effort.

The senior Sedona Red Rock High School running back had 16 carries for 155 yards and two first-half touchdowns, including a 55-yarder on the third play of the game, to lead the Scorpions [3-1] to a 21-12 home win over the Falcons on Friday, Sept. 19.

Davis’ night gave him the second-most rushing yardage in Division V, Section VII, with 304 on the season, while tying him in fifth in total points with 30. He got 55 of his yards on the third offensive play of the game at the 9:45 mark, slipping around left end untouched down the sidelines for the game’s first score.

Senior fullback Scott Moker sealed the game with a one-yard dive late in the fourth quarter.

“We had a timely, sustained drive,” said head coach Ken Selle. “Basically, we ran the ball all but two plays.”

Junior Derrick Johnson started at quarterback over senior Max Hauserman and had the more successful evening, completing four passes for a season total of 257 passing yards, fourth in the section.

But Selle thought that, even after Davis’ 11-yard run on the first play of the second quarter put SRRHS up 14-6, poor execution and mental mistakes kept the game close.

“We ran the ball well,” head coach Ken Selle said, “but our message to the kids now is, go back to fundamentals,” he said.
