Six Sedona Red Rock High School swimmers and as many relay teams qualified Saturday, Sept. 27, for State, as the Scorpions were Division II runners-up at the Phoenix Country Day School Eagle Invitational.
“We had some amazing swims all the way around,” Scorpions head coach A. Jay Bronson said. “Boys won our division, discounting diving, which is something we don’t have.”
Seniors Emily Aitken, Jakob Carter and Tristan Decker all won individual events while freshman Sarah Reed made a big new splash with top-five finishes in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley.
The Scorpions finished second overall out of 11 teams behind the winner and host, Phoenix Country Day. The boys team lost first place to the Eagles by a scant six points, as Carter won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.58.
