Road loss sends Scorpions back into pack1 min read

It was “a freak of nature,” Sedona Red Rock High School head football coach Ken Selle said — but it cost the Scorpions a huge opportunity Friday, Oct. 3, at Kingman Academy.

“It was a long trip and we just seemed discombobulated the whole night,” he said. “It was just growing pains with a team that hasn’t been in lot of situations like that.”

That freakish situation occurred when junior quarterback Derrick Johnson was picked off by senior Ethan Tibbetts, who returned the interception 70 yards for the winning touchdown in a 21-14 road loss.

“The game was ours to be won,” Selle said. “We didn’t play well at all.”
