Four Sedona Red Rock High School cross-country runners, paced by senior Tia Myers’ first win, finished the Crusaders Invitational in under 20 minutes Oct. 15 to prime the Scorpions for the Yavapai County Championships.
Myers ran the north Glendale 5K in a personal-best 19:47.8, the sixth-best time in Division IV, to be the first girl to finish the course.
“Finally. It only took three years,” she said. “Overall, my senior year, I’ve taken over two minutes off my time.”
Fellow senior Natalie Cox finished nearly seven seconds behind Myers in second place. Cox ran the Desert Twilight Invitational in under 19½ minutes Oct. 3, fourth-best time among all Division IV girls.
“It wasn’t my best race,” Cox said. “It was a fun course; it was just rocky and trippy. I’m hoping to get, by the end of this season, under 19 [minutes].”
