After an Oct. 3 loss at Kingman Academy, Sedona Red Rock High School head football coach Ken Selle called interceptions “inevitable” and fumbles “unacceptable.”
Unfortunately for the Scorpions [5-3], two of each happened at the homecoming Friday, Oct. 17, for Williams High School, leading to a 54-20 road rout.
“It was embarrassing for the team, with so much at stake, to play that poorly,” Selle said. “The buck stops with the head coach. I’ll take the blame. We weren’t as prepared as we should’ve been.”
Scorpions senior running backs Andre Davis and Scott Moker both had fumbles, while both Scorpions signal-callers — senior Max Hauserman and junior Derrick Johnson — each threw an interception.
“Derrick had a great game, despite the one interception,” Selle said. “It was just too few and far between in terms of scores.”
Davis’ miscue was also understandable, given that he succumbed to an asthma attack on the smoke-covered Vikings field and fumbled after just one catch and two carries for 60 total yards.
