Head football coach Ken Selle’s challenge to his 15 Sedona Red Rock High School seniors came early in their preparation for their final home game Friday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m. against Lee Williams High School.

“It’s Senior Night,” he said. “If you’re not ready for this game, you’re not ready for football.”

Not ready, though, is how the whole team appeared in a 54-20 loss Oct. 17 at Williams High School that all but eliminated them from contention in the Division V state tournament.

“Certainly, I’m hoping the Williams game left a very bad taste in their mouth,” Selle said. “I think they’ll be fired up. You don’t play to lose.”

The good news is that, with the possible exception of injured linemen Cleighton McManus and Luis Robles, all 15 seniors should be dressed and ready to go Oct. 24. That list includes running back Andre Davis and wide receiver Brian Nguyen, who had an asthma attack at and was ineligible for Williams, respectively.

“It’s unfortunate that we picked that game to play, certainly defensively, our poorest game of the season,” Selle said. “We were out of this game early. They came out and smacked us around, and we’re just going to have to regroup.”
