They believed, and they did it.

“I’m just breathless, like, mindless,” senior Brian Nguyen exhaled Friday, Oct. 24, after Sedona Red Rock High School upset Lee Williams High School, 21-19. “I just love my team. That’s all I can say right now.”

In their final home game, 15 Sedona Red Rock High School seniors came back from a 19-14 deficit with 46 seconds to play for a 62-yard drive, culminating in a seven-yard touchdown catch by the only non-senior — junior wide receiver Bailey Ehrlich.

“Bailey is an ungodly receiver,” SRRHS head football coach Ken Selle said. “The intensity level was the best that I’ve seen in a long, long time with this team.”

Senior quarterback Max Hauserman engineered the game-winning drive with a 13-yard keeper to midfield, then a 37-yard sideline fade he lofted to Ehrlich before his seven-yard hookup with him again in the right corner of the end zone with 9.9 seconds to play.

“I said, ‘Everybody stay in and block, and we’re going to throw it to one guy,’” Selle said. “Max laid two balls up there perfect. That’s what senior leadership is about.”
