One down, one to go.

The Division IV, Section IV volleyball title belongs to Sedona Red Rock High School. Senior DeVonne Ryter’s 18 kills led made easy work of Mingus Union High School — 25-6, 25-15, 25-21 — to give the Scorpions [28-9-3 overall, 9-1 section] their 10th straight win and 10th sectional title in school history.

Ryter’s 385 kills on the season, along with her .348 hitting percentage, lead all Division IV players. They are two of the biggest reasons why head coach John Parks not only thinks Ryter should at least be considered for Division IV Player of the Year, but also why the Scorpions are one of a handful of favorites to win the state volleyball championship Saturday, Nov. 8, in Prescott.

“We have the talent and the skill there,” Ryter said. “We just need to follow through on a positive mentality. Just mental toughness, that’s all we need.”
