Sedona Red Rock High School’s road to the Division IV state title is taking a strange turn south beginning Thursday, Nov. 6.
Despite both road and tournament victories over Northwest Christian High School to win the Section IV title over the Crusaders by tiebreaker, Northwest Christian was seeded second for the state tournament in Prescott Valley, while the Scorpions were seeded fifth by the Arizona Interscholastic Association.
“I can’t figure out the math on those,” said John Parks, SRRHS head coach and athletic director. “We have the toughest section, top to bottom. It looks like six of our teams will be in the final 16.”
SRRHS will face the Tombstone High School Yellow Jackets at 5 p.m. and may face a sectional opponent as soon as the quarterfinals Friday, Nov. 7, at 4 p.m. if No. 13 seed Phoenix Country Day School can pull the upset of fourth-seeded Valley Christian High School.
