Senior Tristan Decker swam the 50-yard freestyle in less than 23 seconds to break a school record and finish 10th in the event at the Division II state swimming tournament Saturday, Nov. 8.

Decker’s record-breaking performance, along with three top 20 finishes by the Scorpions’ relay teams, powered a 17th-place finish for the boys at the Skyline Aquatic Center in Mesa.

“Tristan was huge,” said A. Jay Bronson, Scorpions head swimming coach. “Relays were the huge difference. Because of our team[s], we were able to place higher than Prescott” as well as Bradshaw Mountain and Mingus Union high schools — all of which beat the Scorpions at the regional championships Oct. 25 at MUHS.
