Bradley Howard’s heroics weren’t enough to pull another upset for West Sedona School.

The Wildcats eighth-grader forced overtime Nov. 12 with a three-point shot from the deep corner of the Big Park Community School gymnasium, but the Coyotes, under new head coach Andy Galley, hung on through the extra period for the 28-25 victory.

“We didn’t really know what to expect,” said Pedro Ortega, head boys basketball coach and athletic director at West Sedona School. “It’s hard until you get to know every school.

“We had, like, five practices to get ready. It’s not enough time, but it is what it is.”

The Coyotes also hadn’t even been practicing for a week prior to the opener, said Galley, a social studies teacher at Big Park. It showed in a ragged, low-scoring contest.
