Alright. There is one day set aside every year for us to remember what we are grateful for.
Really?
Well, some people need that special day to be set aside because they are continually grumpy and complain a lot. Do they really change because of that day? That would be nice.
Is there a relative or someone with whom you identify as having that ‘never good enough’ gene? Do you spend Thanksgiving with them? Do you wish to make an impact on them somehow?
No matter whose home the gathering is in this year, how about asking the host to allow you to put a little paper and pencil at every place setting.
Before the turkey and dressings arrive at the table, ask everyone to write what they HAVE in their life that they take for granted, such as a roof over their head, transportation available to them, some parts of their health that are working well. Three things; i.e. socks, a brush, running water, someone to invite them for Thanksgiving dinner, and the like.
After turkey, we get sleepy and if we have filled our mind with delight, our dreams will be sweet.
If you read this column after Thanksgiving, how about doing it at the dinner table this week. If you eat alone, do it yourself.
In fact, how about doing it every night at dinner. Put something on the table where you eat to remind you of gratefulness. If you eat on a snack table, a sticker of some sort.
Do you have stomach or digestive problems? An attitude of gratitude allows us to digest food well.
If you don’t journal or keep a diary, keep your little papers of gratefulness in a shoebox and review them on New Year’s Eve. Date them and you will, in fact, have a blessing of memories. Maybe one day you’ll write a book from them!
Life and relations with people have biorhythms. When in a cycle that asks us to buck up and seek to return to happiness, it helps to have a bundle of gratefuls at the tip of our mind.
I’m grateful that you take the time to read the thoughts that run through My mind.
This might be a busy week for you, too, perhaps traveling, shopping, cooking, so you may be glad today’s article is short.
