One more power surge from the Great Wall of Sedona is being felt in Moscow, Idaho.

Sedona Red Rock High School senior outside hitter DeVonne Ryter signed a national letter of intent Nov. 12 to play under a volleyball scholarship at the University of Idaho.

Ryter, a senior with a 4.0 grade-point average, has finished her exhibitions and other coursework early enough to graduate SRRHS and join head coach Debbie Buchanan for workouts in January.

“I can’t imagine my life without volleyball,” Ryter said. “I really love the sport. It’s kind of my outlet. I forget about everything else that goes on in my life when I hit the court.”

The driving force behind SRRHS head volleyball coach John Parks’ team this fall in its run to the Division IV state championship, Ryter finished her Scorpions senior season with 523 kills — fourth among all Arizona high school volleyball players. Her .374 hitting percentage led all of Division IV, and her 77 aces tied her for third-best in Section IV with junior teammate Annie Parrella and behind two other teammates — junior Lauren Stevenson and senior Morgan Andrews.
