Although a new course record was being set, over 50 runners had to be turned away Thursday, Nov. 27, from the Sedona Turkey Trot.
Former Sedona Red Rock High School runner Mykala Seresun was the fastest local finisher at 19:51, good enough for 17th place in the most popular Sedona Turkey Trot ever at Posse Grounds Park.
“Honestly, we had 190 starters last year. I figured 250 was more than enough of anything for Sedona,” said Adam Gifford, president of a local running company that presents the event but had to cap registration at 253 entrants Nov. 24. “We sold out Monday morning.”
This did allow every finisher to still enjoy the quickest post-race carbohydrate injection ever — a slice of Thanksgiving pumpkin pie after crossing the finish line at the Jack Malmgren Memorial Skate Park, 525 Posse Ground Road. After starting with 80 runners in the inaugural 2011 Turkey Trot, Gifford plans to order about 100 more next year, but no more.
