Eighth-grader Audrey Perry ran wild after a quiet first half at Camp Verde Middle School, helping Big Park Community School avenge its only loss and clinch at least a share of its fourth straight Verde Valley League girls basketball championship.

“I’ve been coaching a long time, and I’ve never been more proud of a team than this team,” said head coach Kirk Westervelt after a 30-25 road win over the Cowboys. “These girls worked hard, stuck out the season and didn’t quit when things got tough.”

Big Park’s defense held CVMS scoreless in the second half until the 1:09 mark of the fourth quarter, after the Coyotes had opened up their largest lead, 28-20.

The 20-5 second half for the Coyotes followed a second quarter in which they scored just three points — and a subsequent halftime in which Westervelt brought down the hammer.
