CVS vote up for reconsideration1 min read

No other project or topic has been heard at more city of Sedona meetings over the last few years than the proposed CVS. In all, nearly a dozen public meetings have taken place as that number continues to rise.

The Sedona City Council voted in favor of the project by a 5-2 vote on March 10. However, a petition signed by residents near the proposed project site forced a seldom-used legal protest. This requires 75 percent of the council — or six of the seven — to vote in favor of the measure. In this case, Vice Mayor Mark DiNunzio and Councilwoman Angela LeFevre voted against a zone change, thus denying the project that would have sat on five acres at the intersection of Airport Road and State Route 89A.

CVS representative Jason Morris confirmed this week that his clients are in the process of purchasing the five-acre parcel and should close escrow by mid-April. He also said they’re conducting a lot fit analysis on the land to determine if a CVS can fit on the one acre of commercial land — something he said his clients are confident could occur.

On Monday, March 16, Councilman Scott Jablow requested the item be placed on an upcoming agenda for reconsideration. The item, which will include a public hearing, may be heard as early as the Tuesday, April 14, City Council meeting. Due to other items on that agenda, the exact date has yet to be finalized.
