Board accepts departure letter1 min read

By a unanimous vote — and with little fanfare — the Sedona-Oak Creek School District Governing Board approved the acceptance of a letter from West Sedona School kindergarten to fifth grade Principal Lisa Hirsch saying she does not want her contract renewed for the 2015-16 school year.

The vote came during a special meeting on Friday, March 27. Hirsch, who was not at the meeting, has been with the district for 21 years.

“It has been an honor to work with a terrific staff district wide and to work with amazing students and their parents in all of my roles for this district,” Hirsch wrote in her letter of resignation to the board and Superintendent David Lykins. “I have developed deep connections to this community and I will continue to serve as a citizen of Sedona.”

After listing her many accomplishments at the school through the letter, she thanked everyone for their friendship and dedication to their jobs.

“The Sedona-Oak Creek School District will always have a special place in my heart,” she wrote. “I have met wonderful people who care about the future of our district and are committed to educating our students.”
