Sedona Red Rock High School’s baseball team began its afternoon Saturday, March 28, undefeated in Section IV, riding a 10-run win over Cortez High School four days earlier.
“I felt we kind of came around against Cortez,” head coach Craig Eagle said after the 11-1 win March 24. “I thought, ‘All right, our bats are coming alive.’
“Our hitting is just the one aspect I’ve been worried about most of the season.”
Less than a week later, Eagle’s cause for concern resurfaced.
The Scorpions countered last week’s two-game winning streak with their second straight home loss, 15-0 to third-ranked Fountain Hills High School.
“We got beat pretty handily,” Eagle said. “Our guys were kind of humbled. Our confidence went out the window after the game because we kind of got beat up.”
Such is the reversal of fortune for Eagle, whose team had a single non-tournament loss going into its 3-2 defeat
March 28 to Horizon Honors High School.
“They’re a very sound team,” Eagle said of the Falcons, who dinged Scorpions pitching for four home runs. “The wind blowing out definitely did not help us, but some of the home runs were no-doubters.”
