Paper or plastic?

It’s a question asked countless times a day at stores across the country — unlike many other countries around the globe that have banned the use of ultra-thin plastic bags.

Even in the U.S., California, for example, passed a bill that will phase out the use of bags over the next two years. For now, though, Arizona won’t be following suit. On April 2, the Arizona legislature passed Senate Bill 1241, making it illegal for cities and counties in the state to ban the use of plastic bags. Arizona Rep. Warren Petersen [R-District 12] introduced the bill, citing the potential impact a ban would have on businesses and the right of the consumer to make the choice whether to use them. The bill is now before Gov. Doug Ducey.

This news came to the dismay of many throughout the state, including members of Keep Sedona Beautiful and the city of Sedona’s Green Team. The two groups co-sponsored a showing on Wednesday, April 8, of the documentary “Bag It.”
