Sustaining scheduled losses to opponents as well as unscheduled losses to players can be the mark of a great team.

For the baseball and softball teams at Sedona Red Rock High School, they each have a final regular-season game Wednesday, April 29, to meet that standard for greatness.

Beat Coronado High School in Scottsdale, and head softball coach Mike Keider, despite losing one of the top 10 hitters in Division III in his daughter, Emma, could accomplish more than that.

With a final sectional road win, the eighth-ranked Scorpions [16-4] would lock up a bye to the second round of the state playoffs Wednesday, May 6, in Peoria.

The order will be taller for head baseball coach Craig Eagle, who must rebound from two straight losses on Senior Night against Scottsdale Christian Academy — ranked fourth in the Arizona Interscholastic Association power rankings for Division III. SRRHS [15-6] fell to 13th after losing, 3-2, Monday, April 27, at Northland Preparatory Academy and getting shut out at ninth-ranked Combs High School.
