Sedona Red Rock High School held its annual Scholarship Ceremony on Tuesday night. Sedona Red Rock High School senior Lily Davis approached the front of the crowd to receive her third scholarship during the school's scholarship award ceremony Tuesday, May 12.

Davis' kindergarten teacher, Patty Nelson, stood beside her. It would Nelson’s last appearance at the ceremony, the 18th and final announcement of a Patty Nelson Scholarship — an annual award the retired kindergarten teacher gives to one of her former students from West Sedona School and Big Park Community School. Davis was from the last cohort Nelson taught before retiring.

“I see many of my former students here and that’s always a blessing,” Nelson said, turning her attention to Davis — an exemplary student from Nelson’s last kindergarten class. “I remember how hard she worked remembering her lines in our class play.”

Davis sat down to applause and then rose for her fourth scholarship — followed by a fifth, sixth and seventh.

“I truly think that Lily Davis has clones. She is omnipresent and her accomplishments and endeavors are incredible for any human being. She has inspired many of us for four years,” SRRHS Principal Darrin Karuzas said, adding that the “diversified” class of 2015 accomplished much, in and out of the classroom.
