Clay Christensen hit a 215-foot shot over the center-field fence Wednesday, May 27, in a 17-6 sweep of the Camp Verde Mariners on the road for the Sedona Diamondbacks.

“He’s pretty happy about that,” said head coach John Johnson. “We’ve been in a lot of double-digit games like that this season.”

The only local Little League Majors team, Sedona [11-4] run-ruled the Mariners for the second time in two weeks at Butler Park in Camp Verde, thanks largely to a 13-run first inning in which the team batted around.

Third baseman Matthew LeBlanc’s leadoff single turned out to be just the first in a parade of 14 Sedona hitters to the plate.

LeBlanc, who had an inside-the-park grand slam in the Diamondbacks’ 16-4 home victory over the Mariners last week, would ultimately score after Camp Verde could not catch him in a rundown between third base and home plate.

“Matthew’s got a lot of speed, so he had no problem getting around,” Johnson said. “We just happened to hit the gaps again.”

This opened the floodgates to subsequent batters Dakota Farrar, Nate Ross, Cameron Stewart, Jaiah Grondin, Joey Johnson and Cooper Barber, who all would ultimately score after either stealing base or advancing on wild pitches or errors.
