One team was left winless in the summer Adult Softball League, presented by the Sedona Parks and Recreation department, after an 8-2 win over Another Team by Team ABC Auto Body on Thursday, July 16.
Outfielder Alex Espinoza and third baseman Tyler Burlingame helped wake up the dormant ABC offense, which had been run-ruled with regularity since the team’s Posse Grounds Park debut June 4.
“It’s been, like, 4-21, 5-14, 2-to-whatever,” said Regina Lawton, catcher to starting pitcher and head coach Adam Day. “It was a blast.
“We were, like, ‘Yay, we at least won one.’”
But Thursday, July 23, the winless but rested Paperboys of the Sedona Red Rock News, await Team ABC, which is coming off a doubleheader of its own, and Another Team to open play against them and other Division B teams.
“I’d like for us to get one more win and one more win in divisional [play],” she said. “We felt really good about ourselves, but then, the second game, it was like we ran out of fuel.”
A Day in the West shut out Team ABC by 13 runs July 16 after defeating Red Rocks Rotary, 9-3, in the first game of its doubleheader. The team is on a collision course with undefeated Tortas de Fuego in the first Division A game, beginning at 8:45 p.m.
