Tortas loses twice and News gets first win1 min read

Sedona Fire District medical personnel load Tyler Burlingame, a third baseman for Team ABC Auto Body in the Sedona Adult Softball league, off the Posse Grounds Park upper softball field and onto a stretcher to transport him to Sedona Medical Center. Burlingame injured his ankle running to second base Thursday, July 23, in a 12-2 loss to the Sedona Red Rock News. He was transported to Sedona Medical Center and released after a couple of hours that evening with a sprain.

Every team in the Adult Softball League, presented by the Sedona Parks and Recreation department, has tasted both defeat and victory this summer.

Thanks in part to Rokzoo Bucket List and Team ABC Auto Body, Tortas de Fuego is no longer undefeated and the Sedona Red Rock News no longer winless going into a full slate of divisional games Thursday, July 30, at 6:15 p.m.

A Day in the West returned to its familiar perch atop the league after soundly defeating Tortas by the same 5-1 score that Bucket List did July 23 to end the undefeated reign of Head Coach Mauro Trahin Sr.’s team.

“We had the talent” to knock off the best of the league’s 10 teams, Rokzoo head coach Sonny Rodriguez said after the game. “We just haven’t had everybody there.

“We’ve been playing games with eight or nine guys. It was kind of a relief to have all 10 guys on the field.”

A Day in the West has three divisional games remaining to preserve the top seed in the league playoffs, which will begin Thursday, Aug. 20.
