Late Tuesday, Jan. 5, the city of Sedona announced that Sedona City Councilwoman Angela LeFevre would be resigning her seat effective Friday, Jan. 8. For reporter Ron Eland’s full interview with LeFevre about her decision to resign, please see the Friday, Jan. 8, edition of the Sedona Red Rock News.
LeFevre was elected in November 2014 and would not be up for reelection until November 2018. Sedona City Council plans to appoint a replacement and will be seeking applications from eligible residents beginning Monday, Jan. 11.
However, the replacement would only serve until this November, then the seat would be up for election for a two-year term set to expire in November 2018, to keep the staggered election cycle consistent with three of six council seats up for election every two years.
Qualifications for seeking appointment to Sedona City Council are:
- Must be a qualified elector. A qualified elector must be a United States citizen, be a registered voter, be 18 years of age or more on or before the regular general election next following his or her registration and must have the ability to write one’s name or make his or her mark unless prevented by physical disability.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be able to speak, write, and read the English language.
- Must reside within the Sedona City limits for one year preceding the appointment.
- A person convicted of a felony cannot serve as a Council member until his or her civil rights have been restored.
- A person adjudicated an “incapacitated person” cannot serve as a council member.
Applications are available at the City Clerk’s office, located at Sedona City Hall, 102 Roadrunner Drive. The deadline to submit applications is Thursday, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m. in the City Clerk’s office. Applications received after this deadline will not be included in the Council’s selection process.
