Authorities continue to investigate the cause of four separate fires on Monday, Feb. 22.

According to Sedona Fire District Fire Marshal Gary Johnson, crews were called to a trio of fires in Oak Creek Canyon beginning at 7:30 p.m. The three, the largest of which was approximately 1/10th of an acre, were located near Briar Patch Inn, Slide Rock Bridge and Encinoso Picnic Area. The two smaller fires were extinguished by the time crews arrived. The fourth was reported along State Route 179 near Poco Diablo Resort and was extinguished shortly after SFD was on the scene.

“I would classify these fires as suspicious because they appear to be related,” Johnson said. “Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in these areas are encouraged to contact authorities.”

Because of their locations, the fires are being investigated by the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Coconino County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Forest Service, Sedona Police Department and SFD.
