Kids who want to make a splash in the Sedona Community Pool but have cold feet should check out the final session of Swimarama, which begins Monday, July 18.
“All of this year’s pool programming continues to be a success,” said Elizabeth Ginsberg, city recreation and aquatics supervisor, “with our newest program, Swimarama, proving to be very popular with children curious about joining the swim team.”
Sedona Swordfish coach and retired middle school principal Lauren Robinson handles both Swimarama and adult swimming lessons. Robinson had over 40 years of experience teaching and coaching swimming in Southbury, Conn.
“Swimarama … is a helpful way for swim-lesson kids to better transition toward [the Sedona] Swim Team,” said Swordfish head coach A. Jay Bronson, whose swimmers will be back in the pool Friday,
July 15, for the Sedona Mile. “We are excited to partner more with the city with programs like Swimarama and Adult Swim for fitness.”
Adult Swim features lessons designed for adults who have a fear of water, have never had the opportunity to learn to swim or just want to feel more relaxed around water.
Children up to 5 years old can also be introduced to the water through two other programs: Parent-and-Child lessons and Learn-to-Swim.
A precursor to Learn-to-Swim, Parent-and-Child is for parents and their children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years old. Each participate in guided sessions that help children learn the elementary skills of water safety and water adjustment.
Learn-to-Swim is a six-step comprehensive introduction to water skills for children ages 3 and older, taught by Red Cross-certified water safety instructors.
Registration for the final two-week session of each of the other programs will open Thursday, July 14, with lessons beginning Monday, July 18. Cost is $35.
Half-hour private lessons, taught by a Red Cross-certified lifeguard and trained instructor for $15 per person, are also available by appointment.
The pool, located at 570 Posse Ground Road, is closed Fridays during the summer. Through Sunday, Aug. 7, it is open to the public Mondays through Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The cost is $3 for adults ages 18 to 54 and $2 for children and for seniors 55 years old and up.
