Sedona Vortex Center will present Growing Up Larry — My Liberation from The Lie, a one-man musical show, on Sunday, March 5, at 4 p.m. Created by and starring Larry Rosenberg, the show will be performed at the center’s Bollywood-style location at The Collective Sedona, Village of Oak Creek.

Producer Joya Comeaux said, “The Sedona Vortex Center is proud to have Larry Rosenberg’s inspirational theater piece grace its stage for the third time. The show a unique form of psychological entertainment for the residents of and tourists to the Sedona — VOC area.”

Rosenberg’s 80-minute one-man show combines one person’s courageous journey and accumulated wisdom from his 73-year life, with the gritty stories, popular songs, humor and dance of a born entertainer — who reinvented himself as a showman two-and-a-half years ago.

Rosenberg’s wild seven-decade life of healing and growing demonstrates how to let go of aspects of “The Lie” that he was fed by a working-class family in Philadelphia — namely that of conforming to narrow and rigid behavior patterns.

“By releasing my past beliefs, I’ve been liberating himself from an unsatisfyingly programmed life, discovered my soul’s truths about how to live my life, and finally emerged in my later years with an authentic, fulfilling and happy life. My mantra is love, joy and peace,” he said.

“The core of my life’s path has been my escaping from four closets — from straight to gay, from university teaching to show business, from American nationality to global identity and from the Jewish religion to universal spirituality.”

Rosenberg believes that the reason his audiences often laugh, shout, sigh, cry and/or sing along with him is because he continuously removes his masks so that they can see themselves in the mirror of his honest experience.

“Audience members often tell me they and I have lived very different lives. But as they watched my show, they realized that we’ve experienced the same inner dynamics. While most of them aren’t ready to stand up on a stage and bare their life story and its secrets, they do recognize how their life’s juicy events and key lessons are also worth recalling, examining and sharing in some way with some others.”

After the show’s performance, Rosenberg remains to answer the audience’s questions and give them a chance to say what they feel they have learned from life.

The “Growing Up Larry” show was conceived in May 2014 when Rosenberg felt a desire to bring his colorful life story to the stage as a musical. He stopped being retired to launch his new show business career as a way to share his life’s hard-learned lessons with people who want to energize, inspire and transform their lives.

More than 20 audiences — in America, Australia and Scotland — have been touched and delighted by different versions of his show and intimate story.

“Although my show speaks to people of all ages — but its risqué content makes it unsuitable for children — the show is particularly informative and stimulating for people well along in their life experience, and who sense the need for self-reflecting and sharing their lessons learned with family, friends and even a targeted public.”

Rosenberg is the chief entertainment officer of The Larry Show, based in Sedona. He established the company to offer uplifting shows, creative workshops, motivational speaking and life coaching.

In his childhood, Rosenberg was an unabashed entertainer in front of his extended family.

But with his voice changing during puberty and not-subtle criticism from those close to him that his singing was not good enough, he confessed, “My inner child went into hiding for over 60 years. At last, I’ve accepted my self and my gift, and using my life’s struggles and triumphs to help others to look at what they’ve been covering up and now may benefit sharing with other people.”

Along with his childhood of always feeling different from others, Rosenberg’s former 45-year career provided the intriguing events featured in his show. Starting with earning a doctorate in marketing at Ohio State University, his career evolved from a marketing professor at New York University and University of Massachusetts Amherst, to management trainer at University of Maryland University College where he was in Tokyo for a decade, and to independent business consultant and coach.

Rosenberg said his 11 years living in Sedona accelerated his exploring more fully his physical health, emotional awareness and spiritual growth.

He freely admits, “As a recovering intellectual, Sedona has been the ideal setting to learn about myself, find my passion and purpose, and age with ease and grace.”

The ticket price is $15. To make reservations, contact sedonavortexcenter.eventbrite.com. For any questions about the show, phone or text Rosenberg at 202-0010.
