Sedona Arts Center Presents Local Artists, All New Paint Outs, Lectures, Workshops and an Exhibition
Sedona Arts Center welcomes the art-loving public to a celebration of landscape painting in Sedona, represented by a diverse group of fourteen contemporary artists who will create new works from the local environment, April 6 to 9. The Celebration of Landscape Painting exhibition will be on display in the Arts Center’s Historic Art Barn and will showcase both studio and plein air work. Participating artists will be adding plein air work, created over the weekend, as they visit local landscapes throughout the 4-day event.
The public can meet and watch the artists at work and see finished works at awards ceremonies, and purchase and collect brand new paintings. The Arts Center has planned two unique community paint outs. The first, open to all artists, is on an April 6 creekside event at L’Auberge de Sedona beginning at 9am and with a free shuttle from the Sedona Arts Center parking lot. Artists interested in participating can register through the Sedona Arts Center or at the event.
The second paint out is an April 8 creative gathering of the 14 invited artists depicting landscapes at the new Marriott Courtyard next to Red Rock High School. The public can meet and mingle with the artists, view and purchase finished paintings on site, and attend the paint out awards from Noon.
“The Arts Center staff, volunteers, and artists have put together a fantastic weekend of painting exhibitions, and public events,” said Executive Director, Eric Holowacz. “And it’s all in celebration of local places, artistic expression, and creative community. We hope you’ll join us.”
The Celebration of Landscape Painting wraps up on Sunday with a panel talk at 4 pm, moderated by Vince Fazio of the Arts Center. The one-hour discussion will explore differences in studio and plein air painting, and how the depiction of landscape has been influenced by other contemporary movements—from Impressionism right up to today.
Artists participating in the April 6 to 9 Celebration of Landscape Painting include Larisa Aukon, Betty Carr, Carl Dalio, Cody DeLong, Vince Fazio, Claudia Hartley, Lynn Heil, Gretchen Lopez, Susan Pitcairn, Jerry Pond, Rachel Schlueter, Stock Schlueter, Williamson Tapia, and Cyndi Thau.
“I am very excited about this weekend of inspiring vistas and new art,” said Williamson Tapia. “When I paint from life outdoors I feel as though I am in direct contact with the living spirit of nature—every stroke of my brush guided by thoughts of the infinite, apart from myself, which I undeniably remain a part of.”

April 6, 2017 9am to Noon – L’Auberge de Sedona Creekside Community Paint Out
The public is invited to watch artists paint still and moving water, reflections, sycamores and ducks at this beautiful setting along Oak Creek. Awards and sales will be held at Noon on the L’Auberge Creekside Lawn. Then return to Sedona Arts Center’s campus and see the “Celebration of Landscape Exhibition” in the Theatre Studio of the Historic Art Barn. Sedona Magic Trolley will provide a continuous public shuttle to and from Arts Center lower parking lot and nearby L’Auberge Resort from 8:30am to 1:30pm.
April 7, 2017, 5 to 8 pm First Friday Artwalk
Meet the artists, share in French Wine and hors d’oeuvres in the Theatre Studio and explore all the galleries at the Sedona Arts Center.
April 8, 2017, 9 to Noon – Morning at the Marriott Paint Out
The 14 artists featured in the “Celebration of Landscape Painting” event will be painting from the courtyard decks and Zen paths at the Marriott Courtyard Sedona. Panoramic views including Cathedral, Courthouse and Thunder Mountain will be subject matter as well as intimate high desert situations. The public is welcome to this special open house event. Exhibition sales and Awards at the back courtyard at Noon.
April 9, 2017, 4 to 5pm – Panel Discussion: “Landscape Painting – Beyond Impressionism”
An intimate group of participating artists will discuss the history, issues and adventures of landscape painting with audience participation, final reception and awards begin at 5pm. Soft closing.
