Sedona Red Rock High School senior Chas Rescigno signed a national letter of intent to play football at Concordia University-Ann Arbor in Michigan on Wednesday, April 19.

Rescigno, who will compete for time as a quarterback, also considered Simpson College but ultimately chose to join the Cardinals for academic reasons.

“Eventually it came down to the academic side of things,” Rescigno said. “I’m setting myself up for the future.”
The Scorpions pass thrower liked Concordia because he can study criminal justice and because of the internship opportunities.

Concordia is an NAIA institution where Rescigno will compete against three other incoming freshmen, as announced by Concordia’s athletics website on March 29. There are four returning gunslingers on the 2016 roster, too.

“There’s definitely some competition going into it,” Rescigno said. “But I’m looking forward to it, that’s definitely why I play.”

Rescigno’s main attributes are his arm and athleticism.

“He’s a good football player and all-around athlete,” said John Bradshaw, the Scorpions’ head coach the past two seasons. “He’s got one of the best arms I’ve seen in high school football. You don’t get a high school kid who can throw the ball 50, 60 yards accurately.”

In order to prepare, Rescigno will receive workouts from the Cardinals’ strength and conditioning coach and continue to do quarterback-specific work. He will report for camp the first week of August.
